We leave Brazil but Brazil doesn’t leave us… Even those who were born in other countries, but had the chance to live in Brazil for different periods, end up absorbing the culture and missing the customs, cuisine and entertainment.

To quench the nostalgia, several events are organized by the Brazilian community in the Houston area, some open to the public, others restricted to groups of friends. One of them, which is becoming a tradition, is the Cachaça Tasting, a Tupiniquim version of the popular Wine Tastings.

Organized by a small group of friends, residents of Katy, Fulshear and Houston, it happens with no determined frequency, in the homes of the members of the group. Each one takes a cachaça and the host provides bar food, which includes chicken gizzards, fried sausage, and other delicacies taken by the participants.

The cachaças are tasted and classified by flavor, softness and after tasting and by acclamation the three best are chosen.

More important than alcohol or food is the bonding between the participants, solidifying friendships and easing the nostalgia for our Brazil.
